Review by Ron Ellis

THE outstanding feature of ‘Two2’ was the two brilliantly realistic performances by Ted Bullen and Jacqui Padden who both played an assortment of different characters in addition to their main roles as the landlord and landlady of a Northern pub.

She wanted to sell up and retire but he insisted on carrying on despite numbers falling and so he introduced special evenings to bring back the customers. But would the marriage survive as his efforts to draw in the crowds were failing?

Thus we were treated to several attractions including a disco night, a quiz, a Lonely Hearts meeting, karate, etc., with the audience occasionally being invited to participate. When he put on a karaoke night, SDC’s Les Gomersall leapt out of his seat in the stalls to belt out a wild version of ‘Great Balls of Fire’ to cheers and applause.

The evening had sadness, sing-along songs, lots of Northern humour and drama, all at a non-stop pace, a tribute to the two actors versatility.

A special mention too for the magnificent set, designed by Radley Haynes, Alan Gosling and team, which was a brilliant recreation of an old fashioned public house.

The SDC had the honour of being the first amateur group in the world to have been granted performing rights for ‘Two2’.

An excellent evening’s entertainment, the show runs until this Saturday evening, November 20. Don’t miss it.

Star rating - 8 out of 10. A non-stop cavalcade of music, drama and laughter.
