A KEY road used by motorists to get in and out of Southport will be closed for three months.
Marine Drive will be closed between Marshside Road and Preston New Road from January 25 to April 14 to enable workers to reconstruct both the footway and the carriageway, as well as install a new and improved drainage system.
A council report published last week states: “Marine Drive is recognised as a key route into Southport and the carriageway surface condition needs to be improved.
“The condition of the road surface has deteriorated, which has affected its ride quality and the safe discharge of surface water from the carriageway.
“The section of Marine Drive between Hesketh Road and Marshside Road has already been treated and it now proposed to treat the length between Marshside Road and Preston New Road next. The section between Fairway and Hesketh Drive is then likely to be programmed for treatment during early 2023.”
