SEFTON Central MP Bill Esterson gave the key note speech at the Railtex/Infrarail conference at London’s Olympia exhibition centre to highlight the importance of continued investment in Britain’s UK rail network.
Mr Eesterson met with exhibitors and paid tribute to rail network staff in his Sefton Central constituency, which includes Formby, and across Merseyside.
He also met with rail technology specialists, Telent, who look after systems at Formby station as well as across the Merseyrail network.
He used the opportunity at the conference on Thursday, May 12 to make the case for improved rail links to the Port of Liverpool, rather than the government's planned new road through Rimrose Valley Country Park.
Mr Esterson said: “Further investment in UK rail network infrastructure is essential and will play a leading role in our country’s economic success.
“We have to invest in the network and increase capacity for passengers and freight. That includes a rail link from the Port of Liverpool and support for an ambitious programme from Liverpool to Hull as proposed by Rail for the North.”
