Comedy play provided “another good night” at Royal Court

Mam! I’m Ere!

Royal Court Liverpool.

IT’S disco time at the Royal Court with a return of Mam I’m Ere! after its first run in at the Central Hall in 2012 and again in 2015 and 2018 at the Royal Court to sell-out crowds.

Judging by the large crowd who turned up again for another night of boogie dancing it looks set to be yet another success.

Based loosely on the famous film Mamma Mia it’s a simple tale of lost love and disco dancing at a rundown caravan holiday camp, think of Maplin’s meets Saturday Night Fever and you might get the idea.

Of course it’s not set in Greece but somewhere in rainy Wales where the camps main meeting place is the Boogie Wonderland disco. It’s the final week of the campsite with the last event being the wedding of Sally and Charlie, but sadly without Sally’s mum, who abandoned her on her dad Dave’s doorstep just after she was born. What a sad story you must be thinking, but of course in the hands of the Royal Court cast it turns into a very funny full on song and dance crazy show.

There are plenty of well-known local faces in the cast, and they are: Lindzi Germain; Andrew Schofield; and Alan Stocks together with newcomers Kacey Ainsworth and Mia Molloy, who make this another night of fun and laughter. It’s always great to see a live band on stage and this one plays those 70s disco hits really well. I really liked Alan Stocks playing the drunken priest and Liam Tobin as Alfie.

The set designers campsite set makes it all look interesting and the moving caravans add to the action.

The Royal Court is a perfect venue for this type of show, with the stalls cabaret seating layout, which allows audiences to join in and get on their feet, and of course we all did.

Another good night out. The Show runs until July 16.
