A TRIP to Parliament would be memorable for any child, but it was particulaly unforgettable for youngsters from St Thomas the Martyr CE Primary because it fell on the same day the Prime Minister resigned!
Pupils from the Skelmersdale school were given front row seats to the news that sent shockwaves around the world after Boris Johnson announced he was stepping down on Thursday, July 7.
Who was to know that the pupils would be witnesses to history in the making with the visit coinciding with Mr Johnson’s resignation.
The visit began with children enjoying a tour of both of the Houses, supported by Lord Storey; a staunch supporter of education in the House of Lords.
He made time in his busy schedule to explain to the children the importance of democracy and the rule of law.
Mr Roscoe, the headteacher of St Thomas the Martyr CE Primary, said: “It was a great experience for our children who made the most of a gallery view of both houses and a sneak peek down Downing Street on this important day in the history of British politics.”
Meanwhile at the School Games Finals at Blackpool the Year 4 team from St Thomas the Martyr CE Primary came third in their Traditional Sports Day event, earning bronze medals.
