FORMBY runner, Tony O’Brien, has won two medals at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Finland.
He won silver in the 1,500m and bronze in the 5,000m at the international event in Tampere.
Tony, 51, who is the holder of three current British records in his age group and organiser of Formby Couch to 5K, said: “I am absolutely over the moon with the results, and it was magical to have my family out there supporting me too.
“After putting in a strong performance in February over in Braga at the European Championships where I won gold in the 3,000m and silver in the 1,500m, it was all about keeping up the right level of training to get me to the world championships in the best shape possible.
“Only a week before I flew out to Finland, I also became the British M50 800m champion so you could say I am having a dream season.”
Tony now wants to focus on the 3,000m steeplechase.
Since arriving back to Formby, he’s already competing again and is now top of the M50 2022 rankings in the Northern League despite the fact his last steeplechase race was 1994.
Tony’s Couch to 5K sessions run weekly at Deansgate Lane playing fields, from 6.30-7.15pm with all abilities welcome.
