Cycling group marks 90th anniversary

Cycling group marks 90th anniversary

by Tom Martin (July 2022)

MEMBERS of Southport Cycle Club marked its 90th anniversary by doing exactly what it was set-up to do – by going on bike ride!

The Southport Road Cycling Club was founded in July 1932 by just 12 founder members and the first meeting was held at 25 Shaftesbury Avenue, in Birkdale, Les Hubbard’s home, where Fred King was appointed secretary.

90 years later and around 30 members of the group took part in a cycle to help mark the special occasion.

The end destination, at Velo Cafe, saw the cyclists treated to coffee and cake as a reward for their efforts!
