MP praises contribution of UK Armed Forces

by Henry James (August 2022)

WEST Lancashire’s MP Rosie Cooper has thanked the UK Armed Forces for their “crucial role in defending our communities at home and abroad”.

MP Rosie highlighted that from deployments abroad in response to the invasion of Ukraine to deployments at home during the Covid 19 pandemic, the Armed Forces are essential to the national defence, the national resilience and the national NATO obligations.

Ms Cooper thanked Armed Forces personnel for their leading role in helping local communities in West Lancashire through the Covid-19 pandemic. 34,000 Forces personnel were involved in efforts to tackle the pandemic in the UK. Armed Forces personnel were deployed to hospitals, driving ambulances, and delivering Covid-19 vaccines across the country.

The MP also praised the UK Armed Forces personnel for supporting NATO allies in response to Russia’s aggression. The UK has doubled the number of troops in Estonia, where the UK leads a multinational NATO battlegroup.

She said the Conservatives have left the Armed Forces with weakened foundations. She added the Conservatives have cut the Army to its smallest size in 300 years and Ministers must halt further army cuts now. She added Labour would also strengthen support for veterans - and boost veterans’ mental health support by £35M.

Rosie Cooper MP said: “Labour backs and thanks our Armed Forces and I am deeply proud of our servicemen and women - and theirs is the ultimate public service.

“Our Armed Forces play a crucial role in defending our communities at home and abroad. They showed total professionalism with their support in West Lancashire during the pandemic and continue to play a crucial role in defending the UK and our NATO allies from Russian aggression.”
