Music academy praised after Grand concert

Music academy praised after Grand concert

by Tom Martin (August 2022)

SOUTHPORT Piano & Music Academy has held one of the first concerts at The Grand since the Lord Street venue reopened.

The concert included nine performances by a mix of Academy teachers and students, including three aged 10, 11, and 13.

A mixture of instruments were used alongside the piano, including a clarinet performance by Jasmine Lindsay.

The Academy organised the event to showcase the talents of the students to Southport MP Damien Moore and were met with applause from the audience and praise from the MP.

He said: “I was delighted to attend Southport Piano & Music Academy’s concert at The Grand, and cannot understate how wonderful all the performances were.

“It’s not easy performing in front of crowds, but the students handled each of their pieces perfectly. They are a credit to their teachers, who also performed at the event, and I know that this view is shared by all those who attended.”

Established in 2013 by owner Clare Kelly, Southport Piano & Music Academy is a music school with 20 teachers and over 250 students.

They serve Southport and the surrounding areas, including Formby, Ainsdale, Churchtown, and Banks, and teach both children and adults.

The Academy has raised over £13,000 for charitable causes over the years, with a recent ‘year finale’ variety show raising £800 in aid of Churchtown’s Botanic Gardens.

MP Moore added: “I would like to thank Clare for organising such a fantastic event and The Grand for hosting us. I would encourage anybody thinking of giving their children music lessons, or indeed who would like to take up an instrument themselves, to get in touch with Clare and the wider Academy family.”
