Youngsters go the extra mile in memory of ‘smiler’ uncle

TWO youngsters from Aughton have walked a marathon over a weekend for Cancer Research UK in memory of their uncle, Stuart “Smiler” Collier.

Brothers Alexander Voller, 10 and Sebastian, 8, raised more than £1,000 with donations still coming in.

Stuart Collier passed away in December, 16 months after his diagnosis with oesophageal cancer and a few days after his son’s third birthday.

Alexander, and Sebastian’s mum, Fay Voller said: “Stuart was always keen to help others either fundraising through running, volunteering with Ormskirk and District Scouts or supporting team mates in one of the sports he played.

“Alexander and Sebastian wanted to follow in their uncle’s active footsteps and help other people by fundraising for Cancer Research UK.”

Their marathon walk was in West Lancs and where Stuart was born and raised as a former pupil at St Anne’s and St Bede’s.

They walked a marathon because their mum, Fay, is running the London Marathon in October for Cancer Research UK.

Fay commented: “Stuart is sorely missed by his family especially wife and young son and all his friends.”
